Definition
Copper bushing is a kind of mechanical failure phenomenon. In the process of equipment operation, the friction between the copper bushing and its mating parts (usually the shaft) increases sharply, resulting in the inability to carry out normal relative rotation or sliding between the two, and eventually completely stuck.
Understanding from the tribological point of view
Under normal circumstances, there is a certain lubrication conditions and reasonable clearance between the copper sleeve and the shaft. The lubricant (grease) will form a lubricating film between the two, separating the metal surfaces of the copper sleeve and shaft, thus reducing friction. When the phenomenon of hold-up occurs, this layer of lubrication film is destroyed, the metal surface is in direct contact, the coefficient of friction increases dramatically.
For example, as a result of poor lubrication or excessive loads, the heat generated by friction can cause the local temperature of the bronze bushing and shaft to rise rapidly, and the material expands, further reducing the clearance. At the same time, high temperatures may also lead to changes in the microstructure of the material surface, producing adhesion and exacerbating the degree of hold-up.
Impact on equipment operation
When copper bushing hold-up occurs in the crusher, the normal operation of the equipment will be immediately interrupted. For example, the crushing shaft of the crusher cannot rotate, so the crushing operation of the material cannot be carried out. Moreover, as the power source such as the motor may still continue to work and try to drive the jammed parts, it will lead to overloading of the motor and damage to the transmission parts, such as belt slippage and increased wear of gears.
